Recently, I’ve been trying to get more clarity and niche down with my company and its offerings. My offer statement has been a living, breathing beast all in itself. It’s been changed at least 20 times over the last 3 months, thanks to the help of research, growth, discovery, and — ChatGPT.

From the inception of my company, RebelSoul Digital, ChatGPT has been my trusty sidekick, getting me through the murky beginnings and early stumbling blocks of first-time solopreneurship — before I had access to mentorship and coaching. Even now, with human business coaches by my side, I regularly use AI and ChatGPT to work through business questions more quickly. I’ve found it to be an excellent help with these five areas.

5 ChatGPT prompts to help you get clear on your business goals.

1. Find your niche

Niching-down is one of the hardest things to do as a new solopreneur. At first, it feels counter-intuitive to limit your audience and direction, but when you try to sell to everyone, you sell to no one. Speak to a targeted few and you will build a loyal following because they will connect more deeply and find more value with your product and/or service.

I want to start a business as a solopreneur. My interests are [writing, UX, human psychology, and making money online]. Considering my interests, help me identify 10 niches that would be high interest to consumers but low competition with other companies.

See the results ChatGPT delivers. Not too bad! It gives you some solid ideas and is a great start to get you thinking of additional possibilities or variations of these.

2. Identify your target audience

Once you have your niche identified, you can then go back to ChatGPT and have it help you identify a target audience. This is especially helpful in building a persona for your audience, understanding their core pain points and desires, and later building content and a marketing strategy to help solve those.

Again, ChatGPT delivers on starting to generate ideas for good target audiences. I like to take this conversation a step further and have ChatGPT really hone in on the core needs, pain points, and opportunities within the main audience. So, I then asked ChatGPT to get more specific.

I want to target [socially responsible corporations] that need [copywriting services]. What are the core needs, pain points, and opportunities these [corporations] would have that would lead them to seek [copywriting] assistance from a freelancer, like myself?

ChatGPT delivered a comprehensive list of core needs, pain points, and opportunities. Having both worked for and done freelance UX work for nonprofits, these all ring pretty true.

3. Clarify your business model and pricing structure

Next, and possibly my favorite, is generating ideas for a solid business model and brainstorming a pricing structure.

Give me a tiered business model and a suggested price range for each offering as well as recommended content ideas for each that would directly address the key pain points of my audience and deliver on the core opportunities.

I wouldn’t suggest using all of these or even taking these verbatim. But, what it does allow you to do is get a solid starting point for a tiered business model structure and scaffolded pricing model with some content ideas.

Validate the content within your market first, make sure the pricing is on par with competitors and accurately reflects the value it delivers to the audience, and choose a model that fits your interests and expertise.

4. Get clear on your offer statement

ChatGPT and I have had many back-and-forth conversations about my offer statement. The nice thing is that it never gets annoyed when I start a new chat with “Hi, we need to rework my offers statement again” even though, sometimes I half expect an answer of “Seriously??!!”.

The point of a solid offer statement is to have something clear and concise to act as a lead in conversations about your business. It acts as a great conversation starter but also as a way to quickly vet whether your business idea and model are resonating with your audience.

The key is to make it clear, to the point and direct. Eliminate the fluff, eliminate jargony words that sound fancy but don’t actually mean anything concrete. Keep it to the point.

ChatGPT can struggle with this a little, so a very clear prompt and a bit of back and forth are usually needed to keep it on track. Use this template to help guide ChatGPT with delivering a solid offer statement.

You are a business coach, help me create an offer statement for my [freelance copywriting service] business. It should be one sentence, clear and concise, and retain this format: I use [methods] to help [target audience] to overcome [audience pain points] and [verb]+ [key opportunities].

The output likely won’t be something you can use verbatim. By making a few tweaks, however, it will serve as a great foundation and starting point to iterate off of as you start to test it in the wild with potential prospects.

5. Build a marketing strategy

This can be done with ChatGPT but I’ve recently found this amazing AI tool called, Founderpal.ai, which is much quicker and delivers better results.

Founderpal is free to generate a marketing strategy and super affordable to download. I purchased and recommend the unlimited option as this often becomes a living/breathing thing that changes as you grow your business.

Follow these 5 steps and come back to them as often as you need as you get more clear on your focus. You’ll be on sure footing as you move forward with your business! Good luck!
